Not being able to get GP appointments is not to do with 'an exploding population' which is dog whistle language for blaming immigrants, it's because so many GPs were near retirement age and are retiring and not enough newly trained GPs are in the pipeline. More were needed anyway because of an ageing population. The government has known about this for a long time but hasn't planned for training enough new ones to fill the vacancies. There is also a lot of backlog pressure for appointments from people who postponed them during Covid lockdowns or who have long Covid.
