  1. Arlene pretends nothing has changed by the election. She's got a cheek to mention 'consent from both sides of the Community' being needed for the NI protocol as the DUP never signed up to the Good Friday Agreement either but that didn't stop them from taking part in the Stormont system it created. In fact the DUP did sign up to the protocol. The DUP lost votes to the Alliance because most people in NI are content to have the protocol as it gives NI the best of both worlds in terms of trade and their economy is now booming. Arlene and the DUP don't like it for political reasons because they think it will make a united Ireland more likely, but they did vote for Brexit and the GFA means there was never going to be a hard border in Ireland, so customs checks elsewhere were inevitable. The British government signed up to the protocol and the DUP supported them at the time. I wish there were some interviewers who remembered these facts and used them to challenge the nonsensical stance of the DUP in interviews.
