Livingstone does have a good record of achievements as London Mayor. He was more astute than any of the others in recent times.

Khan is not as left wing as Ken.

@saxglend9439 Labour is not in power and hasn't been since 2010.

@EskiLdn It matters who is in power when you are wanting to complain about what's happening to you under their control. The Cons have gone more right wing than ever. Those who think they set left wing policies must be to the right of Ghengis Khan. They do what they need to do to stay in power, but often that means telling a lot of lies when they think their power is slipping. If you think they have to move to the left to please voters, that means the voters are to the left of the Cons. Moving to please the voters is democracy surely?

@saxglend9439 Of course each new government inherits a situation but then what they choose to do about it is usually coloured by their own ideology. There was a world banking crisis when Labour was last in power and they had to spend billions bailing out the banks. When the Tories came into power in 2010 they decided that years of austerity was the answer to the economic situation they found, unlike the USA and Portugal who came out of recession faster without resorting to years of austerity. Now we have Covid which has forced the government to spend billions but not always wisely (e.g £37bn handed out to friends and supporters without any competition for contracts, then not publishing those contracts as legally required). So far they haven't suggested that more austerity is needed but that may change. Brexit has also damaged the economy, particularly the hard form of Brexit that Boris opted for.
