  1. In the book 'Diary of a Nobody', there are characters called Cummings and Gowing and the main character makes a joke that Gowing's always coming and Cummings is always going. Strange co-incidence. P.S. I forgot to mention another co-incidence - the main character's wife is called Carrie. Cummings and Gowings are meant to be his friends but you get the impression that they sometimes irritate him.
