He looks sad in moments of reflection, as if he's thinking regretfully about the break up and loss of Led Zeppelin, which was his band above all.

@SC-mw2yc If you watch any Robert Plant interviews about that time, he says it was the end of the band as far as he was concerned. He seemed to relent later on and did work again with the band but not permanently. If you read Jimmy Plant's Wikipedia page it's clear he wanted to carry on even as late as 2014 but he didn't believe Plant did. Also even in more recent interviews they both say they could not carry on when Bonham died as they could not replace him and they stopped touring at that time also. Jason did some projects with them but it was never permanent. My view is that though a guitarist's talents don't change with age, Plant later felt he couldn't do the same frontman performances or be the same persona that he was in the 70s version of the band, and he wanted to try different things.

@SC-mw2yc They didn't continue to tour though. They effectively broke up as a band then. They did get together from time to time for a few specific 'projects' later but that's all and they didn't always involve John Paul Jones.https://ultimateclassicrock.com/led-zeppelin-break-up/

@SC-mw2yc But Jimmy Page and JPJ have since said they were willing to get back together and play Led Zeppelin music. I think they would play with Jason Bonham as a drummer. Robert Plant is the one who does not want to get back together though he did get back together with Jimmy from 1994-1998. They left out JPJ at that time, just so they could avoid people saying it was a Led Zeppelin revival. I can understand Plant's reasons for not wanting to 'do' Led Zeppelin again, but I think Jimmy is sad about it.

@SC-mw2yc That wasn't a point I missed. It was so self evident it didn't need comment but I will say that Plant and Page released an album in 1998. I think it was called 'Walking to Clarksville' but it didn't do as well as they'd hoped and they went their separate ways again, career-wise.

@andyhughes1776 Regret is about something that might have been different, but no one can avoid getting old.

@gil9417 I think he is happy enough at his age - happy with what he achieved and now that the pressure is off him but he still likes to play. None of the surviving members of Led Zep come across as bitter or grumpy or sad because of their age. Creative people can still get pleasure from being creative.
