Ukrainians were prepared to fight to defend their own democracy and national identity. Afghanistan was not a true democracy and had no strong sense of national identity. It's a group of tribes often warring with each other. Ukrainian resistance is supported by Western weapons. Once the Americans withdrew from Afghanistan there was no such external support.

@dyawr They may have left weapons behind but the Afghan Army were never self sufficient in defence of the Afghan regime, but since it was a corrupt regime and there's not really a great sense of national identity in Afghanistan, it's not surprising they were not prepared to put their lives on the line. Also, unlike in Ukraine, the head of the Afghan regime abandoned the country within hours of the Taliban attacking Kabul.
