It takes 10-13 years to train a doctor - 46 doctors dead - that's a huge dent in their health resources with no prospect of easy replacement..

Jon Cocks That's because there is a delay in effect. People infected before the lockdown may not show symptoms for 5 days and in that time they can infect a lot of other people. There may also be people who have such mild symptoms that they are not aware they have the virus and infect a lot of other people. If each person infects 2.5 other people as in virus spread modelling, a huge number of people can be infected before lockdown and the cases will continue to rise for a while after lockdown.

@samdunn717 Does that include practical experience? I accept what you say, I was just referring to the purely academic side, not the practical experience side, and of course things may have changed in recent years. I'd better go and amend my comment now.

@Cetoute32818 They would not take you unless your symptoms were severe, and if your symptoms were severe you would need treatment in hospital.

@emmalou3121 My point was that there will be fewer people to care for the people with Coronavirus and more will die as a result. The virus is overwhelming the care and health system.The families of patients will care about that. Of course I value their lives but I'm not affected as much as their families are and I can't pretend to be.

@emmalou3121 I wasn't particularly addressing my first comment to them. If you look lower down in the comments you'll seen that I've sent a message of sympathy to an individual who told me that her husband, a doctor, has died from the virus and that 80 doctors have died in her country. This is the comment from 'snowflake'. You may want to send her a message of sympathy too. 'Helen Trope , in Iran almost 80 doctors died since Mid February 2020 , including my husband who was an orthopaedic surgeon. He was only 54 and unfortunately he couldn’t make it in 25 of February 2020 , I can’t believe it , every things gone just because of that tiny evil'

@yuyu-mo4je That's not true. Once you're infected, you're infected, but the symptoms usually take 5 days to show up. Once the virus is in your body, nothing can stop the infection taking hold. Taking a shower won't stop it and bed sheets are irrelevant at that stage. The preventative measures that people need to take are to stop it getting into their bodies in the first place.

@yuyu-mo4je Hygiene is good practice, yes, but you have to stay away from other people (2 metres away) , not touch them or shake their hands, and wash your hands when you get back to your house. A shower when you get back to your house would be good as part of that. In a lockdown situation, only leave your house for food or in an emergency.
