@vadimgolub8605 I don't know. Maybe he's afraid of Putin or just doesn't want to admit that his actions opened the way for the likes of Putin. He may be concerned about his legacy and how he will be seen in history.

Gorbachev seems so human and reasonable compared to Putin.

Gorbachev is very diplomatic and circumspect here. Putin took everything on himself alright, including the state assets though he did share some with his cronies. It would have been interesting to ask Gorbachev about Chernobyl and what he thought of the TV series on that, in which his character is portrayed.
