There's no particular logic except that they need to put brakes on somewhere. It's just like pressing stop/go buttons now, if they allow one thing, they stop something else to balance it out.

@kylemc0254 I believe they should teach more finance, economics and politics (in terms of how the British political system works). However you can do those subjects if you get on to higher education. You have to do the basics before moving on. All you need to know about the stock market is that it's a form of gambling, but bigger players' investments are automatically played and switched according to an algorithm, which means that smaller individual investors are always at a disadvantage. I'd stay away from it, as far as personal income is concerned, for that reason. Science can help people in all sorts of job areas that are in demand from medicine, to engineering, to technology and just being able to follow information available on Covid for instance or make personal decisions about lifestyle and medical care. We'll all need to be more savvy on science in the future. Poetry is like teaching the mind to dream, express itself in unique ways, be free and enjoy the more pleasant things in life. I think it was Oscar Wilde who said, while in prison, that they could not imprison his mind. Education's about personal fulfillment as well as life skills. Creativity and the field of the arts is good for mental health.

@kylemc0254 You are wise once you come to realise how little you know compared to how much there is to know and that you never stop learning in life. You can learn from everything. Nothing is wasted. You can learn from failure as well as from success, from life experiences as well as formal learning but formal learning helps with everything too. Maybe that's not so apparent at the time you are learning, which can seem like a chore if you're not enjoying it, but no learning is ever wasted in life. Think of your mind like a store cupboard and fill it with good and useful things. The more there is in there the more resources you have to call upon in life when you need them. Also the more you understand about things the more enjoyment you can get from them.

Crying Shame As I said the creative arts are good for mental health. They widen your horizons and exercise the intellect and if you can understand and appreciate Shakespeare it means there's an awful lot of other things you can do too. Like perhaps interpreting government bollox rather than being taken in by them. Also, Brexiteers and right wingers are always banging on about being patriots, worried about their culture being downgraded etc etc .Well at school you can learn about the sources of our culture. Shakespeare is one of those, and if you can't be bothered to learn about it, then you are one of those downgrading British culture.

@Scarface Education is not just about work, it's also about self development, developing critical abilities and understanding, which can be used in any environment. You can do business studies at school if you choose it for GCSE.

Gerr mkk Governments are not co-operating, to save the environment, to stop wars of all kinds including trade wars, to rescue those in need, etc etc etc. They don't share world views etc etc. The UN can't even get unanimous decisions to act on some things and the US doesn't even pay its fees to the UN.

Crying Shame I'm not saying we should all be the same but we should seek to understand different cultures including the ones that have framed our society and understand each other. That's enough now. I've spent enough time on this topic. There are other things to do.
