@doody244 Being a life peerage stops it from being inherited by a bad apple at any time in the future.

@doody244 The problem with that is that it would cause rifts and ill-feeling within the family. Also as Edward is the 4th child of the King, over time, down the generations, the inherited title would move further and further from the Royal family.

@doody244 I think the title Duke of Edinburgh has a sentimental attachment for the Royal family so they will like to control who has it which they can do if it's not hereditary.

@melissaclark1051 Are you responding to my relation of the Yogi Berra quote? He was known for speaking nonsense at times. Dead people would not be able to go to his funeral. Anyway I think funerals are for the benefit of the living, the mourners. The dead would have no interest in them as you say.
