This reviewer does not know the film Spartacus it seems. It's not that his men are 'chanting his name'. It's that the Romans said they would pardon his men if they identified Spartacus otherwise they would all be crucified. Spartacus stands up to declare who he is in order to save his men, and all his men start declaring that they are Spartacus ('I'm Spartacus' etc). They would not give him away in order to save themselves. There's a story (maybe urban legend I don't know) that Kirk Douglas's brother once tried a career as a comedian. In London he wasn't getting a very good response and disappointed he tried the line. 'Do you know who I am? I'm Kirk Douglas's brother'. Whereupon an audience member stood up and said 'I'm Kirk Douglas's brother' and all the rest of the audience started standing up and saying it also.
