Was he also the one who decided to give staff 60 second interviews to pitch to save their jobs?

Bordering on corruption.

@pm2886 Take a second job, or a third job or a fourth job until you drop from exhaustion.
8
@pm2886 These days most cities are expensive and people don't always have a choice about whether they live alone.
8
You still have a hopeless government.
5
@pm2886 I think you missed the sarcasm in my comment. I'm not advocating that.
4
@pm2886 No work in the countryside and no good public transport system.
4
@pm2886 You can't inflict yourself on someone who doesn't want you. Plenty of people with personality disorder or mental health issues, drug or alcohol addicts or who are sociopathic, narcissistic, depressed, psychopathic, disorganised, a history of abuse or criminality etc can't find people who want to live with them and some people just prefer to live alone. Why is that so hard to understand?
4
@pm2886 I think you are detached from modern reality. Poor people don't live premium locations unless they were born there in a house with no mortgage, before house prices went up. Poor people can't even afford many non premium locations now and even those with moderately good incomes can't afford to live in many cities if they are trying now.

@jcee2259 So not a UK experience.

@pm2886 Family and friends may not want to share or have room for adult offspring. Friends may have their own families and singletons not want to marry random strangers.

I saw Nye for £20. Not the best seats but no restricted view either. The National Theatre is more accessible than most but not everyone can travel to it or even afford a £20 ticket. Sadly there's too much poverty.

@thechunkster7905 Not as bad.

@afghosting8772 Not sure what job that would be and I would not have the strength, nor would a man of my age, I suspect, but some women would be strong enough given the chance, after all there are women firefighters now and they have to pass a test of carrying a body over their shoulder, down a ladder. There are also women wrestlers and boxers. Also, in the third world, it is the women who do most of the physical work.

Brits tend to have smaller families when they have them and often children have to move to other parts of the country for work or even to go abroad. Then as you get older, friends and relatives your age start to die out. Neighbours may not know each other. In the cities there is a lot of population movement and in the countryside neighbours may not live near and transport may not be available.

Still happy about Brexit from a farming perspective?

Isn't it possible now to use the internet to join hobby groups where you can see and talk to people while doing activities you enjoy - art groups for instance? I know older people may feel they don't have the knowledge but if there was a charity group that could help and teach them how to do this it would cut down the isolation, especially during lockdown.

@Kick1066 Think how much more damage the Tories can do if elected for another 5 years. When they are not doing damage they are being useless.

@tabularasa7775 Such jobs were good provided people had their health and strength, ate properly and took exercise. The downward pressure on wages meant that pay for such jobs is not as good as it was and conditions are worse now, but it was good that people could succeed without going to Uni because in those times not that many did. Personal qualities also come into the equation though.

@afghosting8772 That is a misunderstanding of feminism. Feminists want men and women to have an equal chance of playing roles and they do not expect more protection from men than they themselves would give, in give and take relationships.
1
@afghosting8772 You are generalising, which I did not. I did not say all women could do the same things as men or were identical to men, but that those who could and wished to should be given the opportunities to engage in some of the same activities. As it happens I have a much better sense of direction and map reading skills than my husband although he received more training in those things than me. In many areas now physical strength is not needed anyway, because technology has taken over from that. Every garden maintenance man I see now seems to mow lawns sitting on vehicles and gather leave with a leaf blower etc. In war most hand to hand combat is now avoided by long range weapons.
1
@afghosting8772 You still misunderstand. It's a generalised movement but it's not saying everyone is the same, only that they should have the same pay when they do the same jobs and have equal opportunities. That does not necessarily mean there will 50/50 split in every profession. Anyway I can't keep explaining to the hard of understanding, and I'm not alone. Note every male has the same views as you.

@afghosting8772 I'm not being superior. Not going to debate any more. Said my piece and not intending to upset anyone.
