  3. I wonder if all people in the Roman empire spoke Latin the same way - every language has its slang version. Italian sounds more emotional than Latin. Latin sounds more formal and it is a beautifully concise language - not so many words needed because endings of words etc do some of the linguistic donkey work. Something useful I learnt about Latin more recently is that the order of words in a sentence don't matter in terms of meaning. The meaning is unchanged by a change in word order. I hope I've understood that correctly.
