He says it because they all thought the EU would give way and they are still naively hoping so, because WTO terms are the worst to be on and no country in the world trades solely on WTO terms it's like the 4th division of trading. Having deals is the premier division, but once there's a hard Brexit (Brexit without a deal) every other country they want a deal with will screw them down because the UK will need the deals more than they do. Also deals can take years to negotiate. They will escape the EU only to be dominated by that bully in the White House. Some Tories want us to be more like the USA but their society is not a great model, with people living in fear of guns, no real rise in pay since the 1970s and much lower regulatory standards to protect the health and well being of their population. Corporations rule.
