@leegsy Yes his posture when singing meant he was straining his voice. He always had the microphone too low then he would bend down even lower to it so he was straining upwards with his head thrown back - a really odd stance, but he always seemed to do it.

Oasis were great fans of The Beatles. Manchester and Liverpool are only 30 miles apart and both cities have nasal accents. The theory about the development of these accents is that people kept their mouths as closed as possible when speaking because of all the industrial pollution in the air, so sound came down the nose quite a bit.
