Renewable electricity has already overtaken fossil fuel produced energy in the UK. The energy form with the biggest risks and biggest toxic waste problem is nuclear. Nuclear waste's radioactivity does decay, but plutonium has a half life of 24,000 years. The high costs and risks of nuclear power plants are always passed onto the public purse or people's electricity bills and the technology for the latest ones is not properly developed so a lot of cost may be wasted without the plants ever being completed. If a nuclear plant blows, the disaster for the ecosystem would be far more widespread for far longer and would permanently damage the DNA of people living in the affected areas. Sellafield nuclear power plant, which used to be called 'Windscale' has had a number of dangerous leaks which the public in the past were never informed about at the time.
