@romulomoraes1986 I will tell you how he'd profit. The ESL would attract a bigger worldwide audience as any fan wherever they are would be able to access games on a pay per view, or other pay option. The ESL would also attract more sponsorship, TV revenue, advertising revenue and revenue from gambling companies. There is no relegation in the ESL so no risk of losing money and the gravy train would continue endlessly. Then, when they have a worldwide audience established, they would change the name to World Super League, base it in the USA, bring in celebrity performers for half time in important games, and use cheerleaders to make up for lack of genuine atmosphere and genuine spontaneous fan responses. Then to make it more 'exciting' , 'widen its appeal' and allow less skilled (American) players to succeed they would get rid of the offside rule and tinker with other rules. Would the end stage be match fixing?

To businessmen like him sport is just another money making opportunity and everything has its price.

How is it that these ruthless owners can fake sincerity so well? I used to think it weird, when I learned more about American sports, that teams would sometimes up sticks, move halfway across the country and change their name. I thought how can they do that? Doesn't it upset their fan base and lose them fans? But in the States it's all about the search for profitable returns and bought success. That's what fans have become accustomed to now. To me that's not the same as football/soccer, but you could see how it could head that way with the ESL. Before long they'd be calling it the World Super League and basing it in the States, then getting rid of the offside rule to make it more 'exciting' for fans and gamblers and easier for American (less skilled) players to succeed. Then we'd get celebrity acts and cheerleaders to replace atmosphere and the missing genuine spontaneous fan responses. Then it's not our sport any more.
