The thing I heard they were unhappy with was that those from the EU given leave to stay were only to get the information digitally online and have no physical proof issued that they can show to employers etc. The government is against giving them physical proof. Why? The Lords do nothing to stop Brexit but just ask for changes to make things work more smoothly. Can't see why the government would be against that and they could get their bill through quickly if they did. If the Lords go, who will be there to save people like Boris from the consequences of their own stupidity. A Brexit MEP has already complained that after 31 Jan there will be no-one from Britain to hold the EU fisheries committee to account. Lol. You couldn't make it up.

@Adamstankevitch Years to prepare for Brexit? Businesses were not told at the time of the Referendum that it would be a hard Brexit but even if they assumed it would be, without knowing the government and EU arrangements for trade after Brexit, how can they prepare? They don't know what standards they'll need to meet or what documentation they'll need to have. The government has never told them and still can't tell them because the government itself doesn't yet know.

@friarjaxmost-holy.17.46 The only sane part of the government now, you mean.

SCOTT UK Some people are stupid. The Lords won't block a bill of a government with a large mandate. They are just suggesting minor changes to make it work more smoothly. The government is stupid if it kicks against that.

@friarjaxmost-holy.17.46 Good luck with that.

@friarjaxmost-holy.17.46 Good luck with that. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating as they say.

@Jerry C 2 rather nasty countries in terms of their current leaders and policies.

@friarjaxmost-holy.17.46 Huh?

@jax17.43 I have faith in facts, not in dreams.

@friarjaxmost-holy.17.46 Don't expect much from the Yanks. They will want to squeeze us for all they can and get us to lower health,safety and food standards in order to buy their lower standard, less safe products. I think boris will find he's only succeeded in shooting himself in the foot.

You need physical evidence because that's what employers and other authorities will demand as proof. Just as today authorities still ask for proof of identity in the form of a recent household bill. It doesn't change the government's policy over who is given leave to stay, so why would the government object to doing that and allow their bill to be voted down for the sake of it? It's stupid but is it more stupid than the Brexit MEP who has complained that there will be no-one from Britain to hold the EU fisheries committee to account after 31 January 2020? You decide.

@TousiTV I don't think people will be sent email copies. It will just be accessible online. Some authorities will not accept copies. They want to see an original document sent to your address through the post. Also people don't carry printers around with them.
