  6.  @Pal.Cockrum  Fool. Any American foodstuffs sold in the EU, (including the UK while we are part of the EU) have to meet EU standards but not so if we have a hard Brexit.   8.  @gregorysmith7308  I read the article and if you read it all, it also comes from rice which, more than any other crop picks up arsenic from the soil but there are other heavy metals in the baby food also e.g. cadmium. Since the USA allows many more chemicals to be used in farming than are allowed in the EU, plants will be at higher risk of absorbing stuff. It doesn't seem as though the USA is intending to do anything to improve matters or make baby food safer. It's typical to load all the responsibility onto consumers to avoid this that and the other. Until this study, I doubt there were any warnings about this and I bet there are none now. Big corporations control the US government.

  9.  @Pal.Cockrum  The horsemeat scandal was quickly brought under control when discovered and vCJD originated in Britain but was also tackled once discovered. The EU banned British beef. There's a difference between breaking the rules (illegal) and not much in the way of rules (allowing for all sorts of risky practices to go on quite legally, often without the consumer's knowledge)

  10.  @mrmagoo-i2l  You don't seem to realise that after a hard Brexit, UK farmers will only be able to compete in price terms with farm produce from the USA and elsewhere if they lower their costs by dropping their standards in terms of chemical usage and animal welfare. Boris won't stop them. He wants deregulation so you will no longer be able to rely on UK produce being of good standards.

He's not making up what the withdrawal agreement says (or omits) and he's not making up the wording of the draft Bill currently going through Parliament. I'm sure you could google those and confirm it.

  16.  @reissjarvis9523  Not yet. He believes in deregulation in general, and he's going for a hard Brexit it seems which means he doesn't have to keep to EU food standards. He placed workers rights and the environment in the non mandatory part of the withdrawal agreement which means he can drop them. He's not included them in his withdrawal Bill (currently going through Parliament) and economic pressures of a hard Brexit will force farmers to drop standards to survive against cheap imports from countries with lower costs and standards. I don't see Boris regulating to keep the standards and he will have to drop them to get any deal with Trump. Right wing Tory ideology means they believe the market will take care of everything and the government should not interfere with it by regulating - they believe in 'small government' and consumers being responsible for their own choices. Of course the poor won't have as much choice as the wealthy as they'll only be able to afford cheap food.
