@PerfectTangent Stop blaming socialists. Socialists have existed for over a century and from when Tolkien first started writing, without doing this to Tolkien.

@Fallen Soul I was a student in the 1970s doing social studies and what you call woke ideology was not around then. Feminism was because of the inequalities of the time. Feminism was about equal rights for women and equal rights for gay people was also a movement, but there wasn't such a focus on language, or gender more widely or on censoring or banning literature. People debated different views but they didn't generally try to censor or de-platform people with different views (though there was a lot of protest against people with racist or Nazi views) or get obsessed with statues. The idea of further education is to equip young people with the skills to research, analyse, debate and make their own minds up. It was not indoctrination. I blame the corporate world and the internet for going over the top. The corporate world is about profit and is terrified of offending people in case it hits their sales and profits. The corporate world includes the media.

@Fallen Soul P.S. In the whole 3 years of my course, which covered about 15 subject areas, I only had 1 female lecturer. Those for the other 14 subject areas were men. That was probably the norm then (I'd switched from another course in History English and Law where there were no women lecturers). However we were exposed to a different range of views through the reading lists for the courses but again most of these were written by men. I can't remember a book on the list by a woman writer though there might have been. There was a feminist magazine around at the time called 'Spare Rib'.
