What are you alleging about him? It sounds like a bit of libel.

People should always read the small print and also those charging such a service charge should be able to justify the size of it and tell you what to expect for it. I believe it's possible to take them to court or a tribunal if they seem to be overcharging. Flat owners would probably need to club together to do that.

He's been on the case for a long time. He just hasn't been in government so not able to change things but hopefully the next general election will bring him into government.

I think they would have to get the permission of the freeholder to make such changes or the freeholder would be the one who needs to do it. Consult the lawyers.

When Labour get into power again (later this year, depending on how people vote?) but how quickly depends on the priorities. There is so much mess and chaos for Labour to sort out.
1
Are you suggesting that they bought them in a run down state?
1
@Juliukas101 Council properties are usually very well built as they were subject to proper building control inspections and regulations. They still have to be maintained though, like any other property.
1
They should always explain the small print.
1
Because there has not been a general election yet so Labour is not in government. People have to vote to make change happen.
1
I think Labour will be in government within this year. Lack of power has hindered progress on this.
1
Independent quality control was removed by the Tories when they took it away from building control in local councils and allowed developers to hire their own building inspectors.
1
Only having to pay for part of the work is one up on homeowners who are freeholders and pay for it all.
1
I doubt it because Labour will know (or quickly learn) that they can't behave like the Tories if they want to stay in power. I think housing problems will be quite a high priority for them.
1
Reform won't tackle this. Their interests are the same as the wealthy elite (freeholders and landlords). They are to the right of the Tories ideologically. Besides we want work MPs don't we? We don't want ones that don't work but sit on their assets and directorships doing nothing while the money flows into them.
1
Because the Tory government put an end to independent building control inspections of the work (by local councils) and allowed developers to hire their own building inspectors. Developer hired building inspectors want more work from the developers so let through sub standard work.

He was excited not he was exciting.
1
Probably the least of worries.

Conveyancing solicitors should be looking into such things and advising their clients (the buyers) before they buy. I suspect the above scenario happens in properties that were once owned by public bodies such as locals councils and are a legacy of the 'right to buy' legislation.
1
It would be good if they scrapped it but I don't know if they will.
1
@auntsally7790 When was that?
1
How do you know, they've not been in power for 14 years, and when they were they did a lot. They'll know also that they can't behave like the Tories if they want to stay in power.

@paulhaley5009 It's outrageous and unjust (By the way you've invented a sweet term muming law, instead of mum in law).
1
@paulhaley5009 O.K.

@paulhaley5009 Don't worry or feel terrible. I didn't think your comment was rude, and I'm not a snowflake that gets easily upset. 😊😊👍👍
