@blaze1148 What would the over 75s watch then?

@blaze1148 'For some reason'. Yeah and the BBC is respected worldwide too. Silver surfers are not whingers who expect the BBC always to reflect their views. They know there are different views in the country and want to hear the debates and make their own minds up. They also look for independent facts.

Sick of people whining about the BBC and obsessed with 'defunding' it. Closing down media channels is never good for democracy. They are all hypocrites as their real motivation is political censorship.

Jimmy Jams A feebie? What TV services can you get for free these days? Believe me socialists do not see the BBC as socialist or even near. They pretty well covered Boris's arse in the run up to the election by not showing some of the blunders he was making, even to the extent of showing a previous year's cenotaph ceremony instead of the latest mash up by Boris. He was often interviewed by Laura Keunssberg who is known to be a fan of his (or she was at the time).

@blaze1148 I don't know what country you are in, but in the USA the Coronavirus has killed more people than the worst recent year for flu deaths. Also surviving it doesn't necessarily mean that people won't live with some permanent damage. It's not over yet either.

@blaze1148 Who knows how long a terminally ill person or someone with a chronic disease would live if they did not have Covid? That's why they also use the 'excess' deaths figure for corroboration. Do you not know this?

@blaze1148 You can count people as dying from Covid if they are not in the process of dying when they catch Covid and it kills them. Covid often causes blood clots which cause thrombosis, strokes and heart attacks, and it often attacks vital organs. If it kills you a doctor is not going to say I'll put on the death certificate, as cause of death, the disease or condition you have that might otherwise have killed you in 3 months time, or a year or several years. That's not how death certificates work. Also in the UK, in the beginning, lots of people died of Covid who were never tested for it and whose death certificates would not mention it. These were people who died at home or in care homes because only hospitalised patients got the test at that time, so Covid deaths were largely undercounted than overcounted. I now refer you to my previous comment about excess death numbers as a corroborating measure.

@blaze1148 I didn't know all the stats but the death rate from Covid is definitely more than from normal flu in the USA. I think the highest number for deaths from flu in recent years in the USA was about 60,000. They are over 150,000 deaths from Covid now. The death rate in the UK is well above the average death rate over previous years. When I last looked the excess death rate was about 60,000 above the average. This suggests that in the UK the number of Covid deaths has been undercounted.

Those who criticise the BBC for intending to charge the over 75s (which the government shoved onto the BBC without any funding for it) are also often the ones calling for the BBC to be defunded or not paying their own licence fees which is both illogical and rank hypocrisy.
