You completely underestimated Livia's part in Augustus's death scene. She was not just talking inane things but leading up gradually to an admission. What she's saying eventually points to the fact that she is the murderer of his family behind the scenes and you see Augustus realise that with horror knowing it's too late, there's nothing he can do and he's helpless while he realises she's also responsible for his death.
