He seems a genius compared to Boris and his lunatic idiots.

You are guilty of casting blame in the wrong direction. (Lazy thinking?) I think you'll find the biggest whammies for London's economy are Covid 19 and Brexit, none of which he had control over.

James H Boris would make anyone look like a genius. Yes I live in London and can directly compare Khan's time in office as Mayor with Boris's time in office as Mayor of London,

@davedave4699 That's a silly statement. What evidence do you have that he doesn't want to lock up murderers?

James H *Name anything good Boris did as Mayor? 1) Khan capped some tube fares. He also introduced 2 bus journeys (within an hour) for one fare. These all helped workers, particularly the lowest paid who used buses to get to work. 2) He allocated more money to the police after the government had massively cut the police budgets to the extent that police numbers were reduced by 20,000 nationally. He could not make up fully for the government cuts as he didn't have as big a budget. 3) He introduced more stop and search. 4 ) He tackled air pollution by introducing air quality audits and an ultra low emissions zone.5) Between March and December 2019, 12,546 affordable homes were started in London, reaching 74% of his 17,000 target. Of these 41% were for social rent, or London affordable rent equivalent.

Why not be angry about the government's poor leadership which is affecting many more people now.

@davedave4699 How has he 'screwed over London or destroyed it? He is trying to do something about crime levels. It was the Tory government that cut police budgets massively so that police numbers were cut by 20,000 nationally. Khan actually allocated some extra money to police budgets in London though he could not make up for the scale of government cuts, because he has less money at his disposal than the government does. He also increased stop and search. The government since 2010 has made massive cuts to local government budgets and social services budgets which are managed by local government so many cuts fell on services for youths and facilities used by youths which has driven an upsurge in crime as well as increases in youth unemployment. The government tends to work against Khan rather than with him as they want a Tory mayor in power in future.

@davedave4699 TfL will need a bail out because of Covid when people largely stopped travelling by public transport. That's nothing to do with Khan. I now believe you are pushing this nonsense for racist and ideological reasons and there's no point in me continuing this dialogue.

@joba4848 Boris Johnson wasted more money of vanity projects than anyone, including The Garden Bridge and the £1m buses that don't ventilate properly in the Summer months. Also he ought second hand water canons for crowd control which were useless as they are illegal to use in the UK. Khan probably has to spend money on PR to counteract the constant lies and bullshit from people like you.

@davedave4699 This is because of Covid but the government cut police funding by far more when there was no Covid. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/jun/17/sadiq-khan-demands-emergency-help-for-london-services

@joba4848 There is new housing - over 12,000 affordable units in 2019 41% of which are social housing or London affordable rent housing which is equivalent.

@davedave4699 This is a quote from Khan's spokesperson in City a.M London newspaper.

@davedave4699 It's not all down to the Mayor. his fares freeze was estimated by TfL to cost £1.9 bn but they were £11bn in debt in recent times before Covid. That was mainly due to longstanding problems with Crossrail, a time and budget overrun. Crossrail is a massive longstanding project not a Khan initiated project. The government also withdrew £700m p.a. support from TfL. Before the Covid Khan had reduced its operating debt by 71% and increased its cash balance by 16% but Covid reduced its income by 90%. You can look all this up yourself. I'm a bit fed up of looking up all the info for you. Here is a list of the cost of Boris as London Mayor. https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/what-boris-johnson-being-mayor-has-actually-cost-london-10491163.html P.S A National Audit Office Report on Crossrail said "By 2015, problems started to emerge on Crossrail and opportunities to change approach were missed,” said the report, adding that the sponsors, the UK’s Department for Transport and Transport for London, “had few effective contractual levers to enable them to take action as they had provided Crossrail Ltd with a high degree of autonomy” (Boris was Mayor of London until May 2016 and The Department of Transport was a government department under Tory control in 2015)
