An independent way to check the Covid death figure is via an 'excess deaths' figure e.g. comparing registered deaths from all causes over the Covid period with the average deaths over the same period in previous recent years. The number of deaths above the previous years average is the 'excess deaths' figure. The excess deaths figure is the number that is largely caused by Covid 19. At the time this was done in the UK the official Covid deaths figure was approx 45,000 and the excess deaths figure was 60,000. This seemed to validate the Covid deaths figure and if anything suggest it was undercounted, which was probably so at the time, because only people who were taken to hospital were tested for Covid. Many elderly people dying in care homes were not tested for Covid. Care homes generally got Covid from elderly patients being returned to homes from hospitals with Covid, without being tested.
