Check out his voting record before coming to a conclusion.

No. It shows how little you understand the democratic system. It's important to have an opposition in a democracy, otherwise we'd be in a one party dictatorship but no one will work without pay if they have a choice. There are a lot fewer of them though.
6
16 times in a single interview (I counted).

@mrmajestic7391 Why does she? Didn't the corruption of the Tories make you heave?
6
It's remuneration and not renumeration.
5
That's for the investigators to determine, not you. Innocent until proven guilty is the legal position but I dare say the Tories would want to do away with that now.
5
She's asking their personal opinions so that she can later say X has this or that ideology and his views are biased, if she doesn't agree with them.

Peter Hitchens is a self admitted controversialist. He earns his living by saying the opposite to what most people say or agreed wisdom. It keeps him in demand and in the public eye, but on this issue his views are dangerous. You can't tackle a virus 'with proportion'. A virus doesn't understand or respect 'proportion'. Anyone who doesn't believe that lockdown is necessary should watch this video about the Spanish flu in 1918. If you thought this pandemic was bad, imagine undergoing worse, with less precaution, and trying to fight a war at the same time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDY5COg2P2c&list=LLGGEn5ziDGQqNRr1m3pwHBg&index=2&t=0s

He also wants to fix some housing scams related to leasehold property. I saw a video of him talking about that.
5
'Democracy is the worst system except for all the other systems'. Winston Churchill.

@apezzero Contributions to GDP are probably not relevant because transport including railways are not a profitable enterprise and that's true the world over. Public transport is subsidised by governments to a greater or lesser degree. The Tories privatisation of the railways meant that public subsidies had to increase to create a 'profit' element for shareholders but now the government has control of the railways again because running them as a private enterprise didn't work during Covid when passenger traffic fell away. In another video, Lynch says that every time some proposal was discussed the employer's side had to go off and check with the government and that the government had given the employers side a mandate to comply with. It's deceitful to pretend that this is just a negotiation between the employers and the unions. The government as the string pullers should also be at the negotiating table.
5
@ryanmets9155 It's a sad state of affairs though that the media often doesn't report him in any prominent way whereas they will report Angela Rayner when she calls the Tories 'scum'. The media live for soundbites and drama.
5
What did Carrie see in him, I wonder? She must be as bad as him and it's scary that they are bringing up children.
5
@mfoco1 Admitting the truth.
5
Some of these MPs are very dim, asking the same questions over and over even though they've had the answers previously.
4
@frothe42 Epitome
4
He should be cooling his heels in prison.
4
This comes from people who have truth challenges.
4
@riverdonoghue9992 They are interested in more than that but that's some all people seem to want to focus on.
4
I think he would have done something about housing, public transport and the NHS.
4
Kwarteng's in denial at this point. How on earth can growth come from people having less money to spend, and the government can't rely on the Bank of England forever propping up pension funds? He's careful not to make unfunded financial commitments on the floor of the house, he says, but he's been happy to make them up to now. There are so many dumbos in the Tory Party government now and very few with common sense and influence.
4
Some of it pays for their office support I believe and it's probably also to try and attract good quality candidates. Ha ha.
4
It's buggins turn.
4
Because they will give a damn, if they are Tory, will they, or be able to change government policies if they are not?
4
Capitalism without regulation and a welfare state (both socialist ideas) just leads to exploitation and corruption. Democratic socialism is different from pure socialism and most Scandinavian countries that are high up on the happiness index are social democracies. That's what we need.
4
@domefford864 Yes things were different under Labour. It's the Tories who have cut local council central grants by huge amounts since 2010 forcing councils to close many local services that helped local people (including youth services which is the sector this guy worked in). The last Labour government on the other hand introduced new schemes including the 'Sure Start' scheme, to give children under school age the opportunity to be a ready for school as their wealthier peers. Since the Tories came to power, Sure Start has had its budget cut by two thirds and more than 500 centres have closed. More children than ever now rely on food banks in order to be fed.
4
Her hand is shaking.
4
@mikem9309 That's pathetic.
4
It's patronising language.
4
The amount of effort it takes to worm out a 'yes' or 'no' answer is something to behold.
3
Not as bad as Johnson refusing to engage with Parliament but announcing new policies to the media with no chance for voters representatives to have their say as those new policies are being announced.
3
@LeoOwnsWwe He can't because that's the territory the Tories have chosen to fight him on. They don't have many other weapons in their armoury.
3
Tories had morals. It was Bolivia that had Morales (Evo Morales)
3
@peterwoodhead2569 Maybe the guy should consult you on the 'simple way round' his problems. It's not the EU being difficult. The EU was set up to protect its market from outside global competition and preserve standards, so it has rules for members and different terms and conditions for outside countries (third party rules). These rules have not changed since we Brexited. They were in place beforehand. We just voted to become a third party, outside of the EU, subject to third party rules. In fact the EU did give us some concession as the withdrawal agreement we have with them means we avoid paying tariffs on traded goods. Brexit is causing problems. Our growth rates are now the lowest in Europe apart from Russia. We are now in recession. The forecast for the next 2 years is bad with no guarantee of improvement beyond that. No one can really point to any benefits from Brexit or any detriments from being in the EU. In the EU the UK created or voted for around 99% of EU directives. The only ones 'suffering' were the very wealthy Tory lobbyists who were about to have tax loopholes and fraud loopholes closed off.
3
That's for the local party members and the local voters to decide. Why should she stand aside? Her majority there is over 30,000.
3
@andyforshaw8489 Woman of the people then.
3
@motr1912 Farms worth under £1m won't pay any extra. If there ate 2 people the threshold is £3m. If they give their farm to their children and live for 7 years after that, no tax
3
I'll get out my very small violin.
3
I think she's passionate about what she has to say.
3
I am a pensioner and I and my husband received Winter Fuel payments but to be honest we didn't need them and I wondered why such payments were universal rather than being targeted at pensioners in need.
3
@Concerned_one Bigoted then. He did encourage violence against muslims.
3
@roberthenry3685 They have only destroyed the opposition if people won't vote for them. Forget the woke stuff, if that's not relevant to you, but everyone wants to be treated with dignity and respect don't they? It's the bread and butter issues that you should therefore judge them on. Who will make your life better in those terms and who will make it worse. Look at the policies the parties have for changing things but don't believe the Tories lying guff. Try to find basic facts and have a look at the manifestos at election time.
3
@Thalia.Lambrou * Bearing. The leave campaign did tell people that Turkey would likely be let into the EU and many people believed them.
3
The disillusioned say they may not vote at all. Heaven help us!
3
@matthewsmith2787 I think this guy realises he may not get another chance or it will be very hard for him. He spent 3-4 years studying for the one he lost. It can't be easy in his condition.
3
@ozzie2612 If they had a proper system working adequately staffed they could quickly process cases to distinguish genuine asylum seekers from illegal migrants and return illegal ones to their own country but since there is a labour shortage fuelling supply shortages and price rises, since Brexit, the government could do with some more workers.
3
@rorykeegan1895 Eh? I'm talking about his record of voting in Parliament. The things he has supported and the things he has failed to support.
3
@Syanarah Yes you're right. I just looked it up. I wonder why then, that some MPs accept outside help from lobbyists in paying their office expenses or providing external office staff, when there's no need for it.
3
Is the difference between 'honourable' and 'right honourable' (member), the same as the difference between wanker and right wanker?
3
Labour said they will look at second homes in future. Some people by second homes as a pension pot because they have no private or second pension but that's not in every case. There are a lot of houses but many need renovation and people can't afford that as VAT is charged on the work. I wish councils could buy up and renovate some of these houses to rent or sell. Air B&B is another area that needs limits.
