Sad for the ex Labour voting lady who's been conned by Boris Johnson and still supports him.

And the Tories, since 2010 have reduced the central grant to local government by up to 80% and also tied local government's hands more. They love to centralise power. Some funding is raised locally via council tax but there are central caps on that.

'Democracy is the worst system except for all the other systems'. Winston Churchill.

Capitalism without regulation and a welfare state (both socialist ideas) just leads to exploitation and corruption. Democratic socialism is different from pure socialism and most Scandinavian countries that are high up on the happiness index are social democracies. That's what we need.

@phillip franks I don't generally favour Winston but he was right in that quote. Name a system that works better for its citizens, that is not a democratic one.

@paulmessenger9836 The debt incurred in Labour's time was a result of an international banking crisis where the banks were too lightly regulated. After that regulations were brought in, but the Tories are about to remove those again. Under the Tories we had a decade of austerity followed now by a Brexit hit to the economy and a cost of living crisis engineered solely by the Tories themselves, by Liz Truss within just a few days of her taking office. Worker's pay has always been higher under Labour and they invest in the NHS, education and jobs.

@raymondelliott2280 Indeed. Many people don't know the behind the scenes shenanigans that go on by the Tories.

@thesaltbaron2237 Well I'm a boomer that has never voted that way. Thanks very much. You seem to have fallen under the influence of the 'divide and rule' strategy of the Tories. We don't have democratic socialism, only some aspects of it that remain, and the Tories always try to undo those by cheaply selling off state assets paid for by taxpayers (such as utility companies and railways) and selling off the public housing stock. They are raiders of the public purse.

@thesaltbaron2237 Sad for you. The boomers I know vote Labour.

@thesaltbaron2237 Some actively campaign for Labour, visiting houses and handing out leaflets and posters. They are also members of the Labour Party. One was a Labour councillor.
