  1. I am a pensioner and I and my husband received Winter Fuel payments but to be honest we didn't need them and I wondered why such payments were universal rather than being targeted at pensioners in need.

  3. They have to do what the government of the day requires them to, though they should not be asked to do anything illegal. They are not obliged to do illegal things though certain Tory Ministers did a lot of bullying to try to get them to do such things.

  8.  @QwertyQwerty-bd3tm  We had a tech up in London near Old St. I'm not sure what happened to that but the modern history of British inventions is that the government doesn't invest in rolling them out so they get bought up by wealthy international corporations who reap the benefit but not for the UK.

  9. Fiscal responsibility was only a mantra for the Tories. The real agenda was staying in power by whatever means including lies and unfunded bribes that would never materialise.

  10.  @MrJeffHead  The value of their pay had dropped over the Tory years by 35%. It costs the taxpayer more in referred costs to have unfilled vacancies, long waiting lists and expensively trained doctors that then go to the private sector or abroad to earn better pay.

  13. Her actions will cut housing costs for immigrants. To be frank as pensioners my husband and I received Winter Fuel payments though we didn't need them and I wondered why they weren't better targeted to those more in need. However I am concerned that this new policy may cause some real hardship for some pensioners who have only the state pension to rely on.

  14. Money is an efficient form of exchange. How would it work otherwise? Bartering is time consuming and inefficient and wouldn't work for everyone, the old and the ill for instance.
