I sometimes think the Tories are a party of aliens.

Some useful action perhaps. Rees-Smugg listens but does not hear. All he does is repeat his Tory mantra.

@Storm.Z.4u Labour are not in government. You have to be in government to make changes. People have to vote you into government.

@andywells397 The Tories will finish us all.

@riverdonoghue9992 They are interested in more than that but that's some all people seem to want to focus on.

Because they will give a damn, if they are Tory, will they, or be able to change government policies if they are not?

@domefford864 Yes things were different under Labour. It's the Tories who have cut local council central grants by huge amounts since 2010 forcing councils to close many local services that helped local people (including youth services which is the sector this guy worked in). The last Labour government on the other hand introduced new schemes including the 'Sure Start' scheme, to give children under school age the opportunity to be a ready for school as their wealthier peers. Since the Tories came to power, Sure Start has had its budget cut by two thirds and more than 500 centres have closed. More children than ever now rely on food banks in order to be fed.

@roberthenry3685 They have only destroyed the opposition if people won't vote for them. Forget the woke stuff, if that's not relevant to you, but everyone wants to be treated with dignity and respect don't they? It's the bread and butter issues that you should therefore judge them on. Who will make your life better in those terms and who will make it worse. Look at the policies the parties have for changing things but don't believe the Tories lying guff. Try to find basic facts and have a look at the manifestos at election time.

@matthewsmith2787 I think this guy realises he may not get another chance or it will be very hard for him. He spent 3-4 years studying for the one he lost. It can't be easy in his condition.

@beyond1957 The Tory party is permanently divided it seems (over certain issues) but it hasn't stopped it getting elected.

@thetruth9210 Rees-Smugg in this video puts the responsibility on councils. I'm not sure what council this guy has (a Tory one?) but he says his MP is a Tory. Councils were forced to cut services including youth services when the Tory government massively cut central grants to local councils since coming to power in 2010. This guy worked in youth services.

@thetruth9210 There were cuts because the Tories wanted to centralise control and power so there was no ability of local councils to go against Tory ideology because they would not have the money to do anything extra than 'cut the the bone' services. The Tories used the excuse of austerity to do it. Labour left a debt because they bailed out the banks that were involved in a worldwide banking crisis, which happened in 2008 because of inadequate regulation, but the Tories at the time had wanted even lighter regulation. If Labour had not bailed out the banks people's faith in the financial systems as well as their savings would have been lost. The resulting crisis in capitalism would have collapsed economies. In 2010 the Tories decided the way out was to have a long period of austerity. Again they used it to further their ideology of small government. Some countries managed to get out of the economic crisis without austerity, including Portugal and the USA. The Tories always seem to find 'the magic money tree' when it suits them though, including £52 billion which Boris spent ineffectually. £37 billion of that was spent on uncompetitive contracts with friend and supporters. Those contracts have never been published, as legally required, for taxpayers to be able to see whether they were getting value for money.

@domefford864 There will be so many people in his field who have lost their jobs. .He'll be up against more competition for fewer jobs. I'd say his experience has also knocked his confidence and maybe given him depression.

Rees-Smugg blames the cuts in youth services on local councils, ignoring the fact that the Tory government has made huge cuts to the central grant to local government since 2010 forcing such cuts. What would it take for Rees-Smugg to show some emotion or empathy? He's like an alien from another planet.

@earthman6700 There's not a lot of trust for people who switch allegiances. It's felt they need to prove themselves.

@jibjub2121 O they love a posh educated boy with nice manners. They never notice the deviousness or double standards.
