  1. Your last paragraph assumes China can capture Taiwan's industry intact, which I highly doubt. Most likely it will have all been burnt to the ground.

  2. Finally, someone who gets it. China wants to replace the US in the global order, not burn it and everything down. As long as Taiwan isn't stationing US troops, declaring independence, or building nukes, China has nothing to worry about. It can kick the can down the road indefinitely. Better that than risk a war it might lose badly.
