@95601 No, it really doesn't. If anything, the Belt-n'-Road Initiative has been a big money sink for the Chinese. None of China's big overseas infrastructure projects have translated into increased energy security, as the vast majority of China's energy imports come through the Straight of Malacca (out of range of Chinese anti-ship ballistic missiles and land-based aircraft, I might add). The BRI was more of a diplomatic move to build ties and to continue fueling the Chinese economy with construction demand (which is drying up in China proper).

@madensmith7014 Not necessarily. For one, due in part by "Wolf Warrior" diplomacy, China's trade power hasn't translated into diplomatic influence. And two, China's manufacturing and trade power is worthless without a potent navy. Sea transportation is very important for bulk commodities. China has also been moving to restrain it's market sector. The bureaucrat (Communist Party) fears business tycoons displacing their power. It also comes at a time where China's economy is cooling down (due to a multitude of factors).
