@CaspianReport Exactly. Ukraine's army was rotting away for the past decade and a half due to their own internal corruption. The Ukrainian Army failed at its duties because their government let them rot away. Though, since the Budapest Treaty was broken, Ukraine could, in theory, develop nuclear weapons again. They certainly could rather quickly, and have the systems ready to deliver such weapons. How Russia would respond to that is anyone's guess. Russia may decide to back out and abandon their hold on Eastern Ukraine, or they may decide to attack, potentially earning them a nuclear strike if Ukraine is ready quickly. But, no one wants to play that game of cards, Russian or Ukrainian. It's why Taiwan doesn't have nuclear weapons.

@baneblackguard584 Ukraine could potentially develop nuclear weapons to try to scare the Russians out. Since the Budapest Treaty is out the window now, they could in theory do it.

@nakkugreen9930 Money can always be found. It wouldn't be too expensive too, since all the Soviet-era research is probably still there. Plus, Ukraine built ICBMs for the USSR, so it wouldn't take too long to start production again. Ukraine is even developing short range ballistic missiles right now that could potentially be nuclear-tipped.

@gerardsmadja1323 Well, technically, the Albanian Kosovars were under threat from genocide, while the Russians in Crimea were upset about political changes. Massive difference. Either way, it doesn't matter, since Ukraine's army couldn't protect Crimea. Shouldn't have let their army rot, so the peninsula is Russia's now. Legality is moot.
