@hxyzazolchak Oil money. That is what Chavez did. It wouldn't have lasted. Libya's economy was based almost entirely on oil. Venezuela at least has more than oil, such as diamonds, iron, tin, fish, and timber.

Gadaffi couldn't get anything accomplished. However, his interference in Chad earned the ire of France.

@stacyaman The UAE also dabbled in commercial and commerce ventures. The UAE has a very good business environment. I'm not saying Libya couldn't have done that, but they relied totally on oil. Gaddafi wouldn't have changed anything, such as Pan-African unity. He would have just been another oil-rich ruler. Maybe Libya would have been really prosperous, but I doubt it. The economy was tightly bound by the price of oil. This is why the UAE, Qatar, and now Saudi Arabia are trying to find other methods of income.

@Agent 69 Unfortunately, what happens outside of our countries can affect our own. That is one of the many drawbacks of living a globalized world. Anyway, Gaddafi had Libya's entire economy based on oil, as I said previously. Things looked good because the price of oil was up. However, he did not diversify. Even if France and NATO done nothing to him, the collapse of oil prices in 2014 would have hurt the Libyan economy badly. Gaddafi was just another Chavez, a populist and socialist leader propped up by oil. And while Venezuela has more than oil, Libya does not.
