@scroopynooperz9051 Popular perception in Germany was that nuclear was dangerous, and green energy (wind and solar) would be able to take up the slack. At the time of Fukushima, the CDU was in a collation with the Greens, who demanded that nuclear energy be phased out. Natural gas was to purchased from Russia until green energy "took up the slack". Of course, that hasn't happened yet and Russia has turned out to be a menace. In sum, the German people though nuclear was dangerous because of Fukushima and Chernoybl. They believed that renewables would be able to replace fossil fuels, and that importing gas from Russia would just be temporary.
