Also Russia is hemorrhaging talent. What young and energetic people there are, simply go to Europe or the US because they're paid WAY better, while dealing with less corruption. There are simply no opportunities in Russia, even before their idiotic war.

Because Russia, for all its apparent skill in "masterful diplomacy" only really thinks with its army for some reason. I mean, seriously, people thought the Americans were bad at diplo but the Russian invasion of Ukraine makes the Iraq War look well planned and executed.

@David-cj8wv No, they didn't. Russia never applied for either EU or NATO membership. They were like "It might be nice to, eventually", but they said themselves that "Russia would rather LEAD a coalition or alliance than join one". Every country since the Cold War has had to apply and go through an often lengthy application process than involves making your military NATO-interoperable and joining the command structure. Russia never had any serious interest in joining NATO, because they'd have to share it with the Americans.
