A democratic Afghan government has been in power for twenty years. The fact that they've all but collapsed even BEFORE the US has fully departed is disgusting. If people don't like the Taliban, then they need to fight for their government instead of whining about the Americans departing (when just a few years ago, they were calling for the US to leave the Middle East).

@Jon-jd2vc Yes, and no. In the late 90's, Iran and the Taliban hated each other. Iran almost invaded Taliban controlled Afghanistan after their embassy staff were gutted by them. However, since 2001, the Taliban have become less of a single group and more of an umbrella term for those who opposed the Kabul government. Iran gave the Taliban under the table support. Of course, relations are still rocky and the two can easily go back to hating each other (for any reason under the sun).

Because their army is hopelessly corrupt. It's why Iraq nearly collapsed to what was little more than bandits at the time, before nearly the whole world bailed them out. Ghost soldiers, expensive military equipment being sold on the black market, and poor leadership.
