  2. The Army has been traditionally favored because of Pakistan. Pakistan is still India's main rival and enemy. I also suspect that the Army is still quite politically powerful. However, India has long snow-balled past Pakistan now (Pakistan is diplomatically isolated with a stagnant economy).

  3.  @jameshowlett3758  I suspect it will be hard for the Army to understand that they are not as important (though still important). Pakistan's Army, while essentially dominating the Pakistani government, is not even close to being able to match the Indian Army. Regardless, both states being nuclear armed makes the point moot.

  4. Probably one of their major reasons for developing the Belt-And-Road Initiative. China still lacks a navy that can truly challenge the American Navy, while most of their trade is funneled through a single choke point. Still, land routes can't beat sea-routes in efficiency.
