The idea of racial classification emerged alongside ideas of Europe’s empirical conquests as interpreted to be in accord with ideas of superiority over people from other parts of the world and used as a narrative tool to justify domination and control by distinguishing between “human” and “subhuman” rather than distinguishing between friend and foe. This paradigm is also what made the contemporaneous chattel slavery to being so much crueler than the previous historical indignities associated with slavery.
