nailed it! I was born around 55 years ago, and that rings exactly true. Btw, my only friend who was sorta apparently seconded into the conservative xtian realm via schools, ie colleges, was my first love in HS who was one of the only black girls in white culture so to speak, i.e white mother, absent father. Not only was racism deep and insidious in the '80's but something in the undercurrent was strongly at play quietly by the new-religious-right back then. It is a destructive soul -destroying social space that was quiet bcuz it's socially unacceptably unamerican and now we see grew into anti-american and antisocial and criminal.
