  1. correctomundo! We paid big bucks for a rail system, and now we won't police it with professional police? Same w/ SPD, we won't modernize it and make it the first in the US to get closer to our peer nations professionalism standards? WTaF is wrong with us??? seriously! Im just over 50 and it's clear that Seattle's leadership has been myopic over time, is fixated on minutiae and won't tackle basic city governance! And i'm a liberal and this city has plenty PLENTY of money now. FFS, get it done! Spend on security and modernize SPD as well.

  2. i'ts not "unfortunate outcome", it's considered tragic, by definition, right? i.e when just anyone has access to a pistol, then this is what can happen. That's why successful societies NEVER give access to pistols and other firearms to just anyone who has no legitimate reason to have access to one. This is not rocket engineering, it's basic security of a society. Duh. Wake up, ppl!

If u have no police/guard training then hell no, never draw a gun unless the situation is crystal clear and easy.

  6. yeah u got the timing right, it changed in the '00's for some reasons. National trends did too, re i think magnitude or brazeness of crimes, not the number of crimes, but the style and brazenness. Until 2008 i'd never known anyone mugged, or robbed, and that year a woman (asian) coworker of a friend from a restaurant was waiting at bustop in wallingford late in evening and was robbed for her purse (which happened to have a ton of cash for tuition) but more importantly she didn't resist and yet was beaten severely to put it mildly, within an inch of her life, by a young man. That was my wake up call, re the generations and the new america. I'm from seattle and am middle aged now.

  11. lol. Every single GOP controlled state and city has even worse crime than any blue zone or city. FACT. Prosecutions in the most conservative areas are easier on crimnials than in seattle, LA, SF, etc. Learn things, u ignoramus!

And the first openly aggressive org/gang shootings including random initiation killings, literally started from spring of 2016 on. Many of us are news and crime junkies and noticed it. It's also true nationwide, almost everywhere! It is a loosening of various norms and civility generally that in any society gives a sort of green light to bad elements. We need to face this fact: the US has started to go off the rails and cold callous attitudes are part of how and why, including the automatic defaulting to using violence when even slightly in doubt or tentative fear, namely with guns. It is a very dark disturbing state of social affairs and we need new laws re violence and re gun possession and ownership. We need qualifications for gun ownership, period! Including interview with police and/or other vetting!
