while this is true that in most modern cars (tightly sealed up engines unlike e.g. my '75 dodge dart w/ slant-6), the oil isn't constantly exposed to air as it sits. The problem however is actually that if perchance the acidity level in the oil happens to be high temporarily after the drive/usage before it sits for some weeks/months, then that sitting oil does do eating/etching to some metals and it harms seals apparently. So this is a kinda complex topic bcuz acidity happens sometimes and there's no way to know for sure, though a shorter drive where engine isn't literally entirely to max temperature, will result in higher acidity. The recommendation for storing cars is to change the oil before storage, and then even after storage, is what true collectors do for sure, and the better mechanics do that to their cars as well, such as the toyota guy who is the very high level expertise mechanic who has the channel The Car Care Nut. I dn't think i'd do the changing it after storage, but before storage of say 4 months, i guess it makes sense? I'm kinda split/torn on this issue, bcuz i have a car i dn't drive consistently. Would be nice to have some ideas from ppl who have a fleet of a few cars or quite a few, even.
