@susanhemmingsen9168 thank u! absolutely correct. The tax system is insane in the US and in some states like mine, Washington state, supposedly progressive, but with a severely regressive tax system (no income tax, and massive taxes on energy now for the first time, suddenly, mangling those who can afford it least during recent 5-8 yrs of inflation, is actually the time frame of inflation in many spots in the U.S. Compared to europe, the US looks severely mismanaged or undermanaged, with ridiculously primitive ideas about social welfare. I realize it's very complex, to say the least, partly bcuz the vast majority of society is very undereducated. So it'll be a long road, but we better get moving.

@jeffmeyer9319 no it is NOT. It's both entirely unmanaged economics/capital-ism, but it's actually mostly a lack of growth, which happened due to unmanaged society and government, ie gvt didn't work with private industry to figure out how to steer the jobs market over the past 40 years. This is so obvious and anyone who is over 45 y.o. and can't see it is unable to think. This country is severely mismanaged BCUZ of conservatives who have bullied their way with b.s. propaganda that defies economic-logic: they said we needed to spend less, when in fact we did not need to. Anyone who's taken the basic 4-6 courses of actual econ classes at the uni level, at agood school, knows this. It is SO basic. Conservatives have severely misguided the masses who know nothing, and have squandered the very fine credit rating of the U.S. gvt. Now we're actually down a couple notches on the credit rating bcuz of these idjits/ideologues whose concepts go against the entirely of economic understanding, literature, and finance understanding and literature and practice. The GOP is now a cult, for real. Not like a cult, it really IS one. My fellow americans, these are the final months or years of warnings like this. You will likely lose everything you hold dear if u go along with these new-right conservatives.

i'm 54ish y.o. man and always been what i call a progressive as well, though the meaning today does appear different, btw, though maybe not meaningfully. I too feel more alone, partly bcuz some of the social networks (not online) are different now it seems, they're more corporate or somesuch, and they might be more ideological. The 1980's and '90's saw less ideology until the GOP around '93 rapidly introduced reactionary attitudes inside of Congress: i know bcuz i spend many hours there taking notes, and lived in D.C. for several years. Imho, progressives and liberals generally are not dead yet, and the odds still strongly favor the entire defeat of america's new-right, and it may take time. And it will take quite a few lawsuits, as well as possibly some mega sit-ins in massive numbers, possibly very disruptive to commerce, IF someone like DJT, Speaker Johnson, or the Tom Cotton's, Abbot's, DeathSantances (desantis) gets in the WH and tries to dismantle or neuter gvt agencies so quickly that the independent oversight watchdog offices can' t keep up with it. If that happens, those who care will need to sit-in in D.C. and elsewhere in hundreds of K's of numbers. There is no alternative when what this is, clear-cut fascism, is attemping to remove the most personal independent rights we hold dear. I'm perfectly willing to sacrifice my life, if necessary, to keep this pathetic atavisitc evil out of the first country in history to achieve 250 yrs of uninterrupted governance /transfers-of-power, in a relatively multi-dimensional culture (relative to other early democracies like France and U.K.)
