  1. I've used a chainsaw to cut some trails. If I don't cut the trees down close to the ground it leaves a miserable trail. When I cut them as short as possible the chain gets dull quickly. When cutting small trees it's more efficient to keep using a dull chain than to stop to resharpen every few minutes. (I carry several sharp chains along and change them rather than taking time to resharpen on the trail.) I know the sound of cutting with a dull chain is hard to hear but If I want to finish the job I'd be using the saw the same way as Kyle. I've found that when cutting trees less than 2 inches it's sometimes easier for me to use a big string-trimmer/brush cutter with a carbide saw blade on it.
