I've heard Minnesota folks mentioning "Popple" trees. I assumed this is a local name for Poplar but it isn't a name I had heard anywhere else. Here is what I've put together. Popple or Popul is the local name that is frequently used for Populus alba (White Popular.) Populus alba is a European species that was introduced in America and is considered a fast growing, short lived (generally < 30 years) invasive species of tree. It produces weak wood but may be used for wood pulp. As a firewood it makes good kindling but burns quickly and does not leave long-burning coals. The name Popple (or Popul) may also be used for the native Populus tremuloides (quaking aspen.) If that wasn’t confusing enough these Poplars will readily form hybrid crosses both in nature and cultivated by nurseries. Hey Kyle, thanks for the videos! BTW, what kind of batteries and solar charge controller are you planning to use with your solar panels?
