@redscope897 You are confusing two different indicators of GDP: GDP (nominal value) and GDP /PPP (purchasing power parity). In first case, Russian goods and services are accounted at low domestic prices, and then converted into dollars at the current exchange rate. So a BigMac produced in Russia will cost $ 1.6, and in Norway $ 10. But it's the same product. A liter of gasoline in Russia costs 0.5 euros, while in the EU - 2 euros. 4 times!!! That gives a different surplus to EU GDP (nominal value). When calculating GDP /PPP, the identical products are taken into account at the same prices - US prices. And you got a different picture.

@aatifrehman4150 There are no universal indicators. Each indicator has its own meaning: GDP /PPP allows you to estimate the scale of the national economy. GDP /PPP per capita- allows you to compare productivity and living standards in different countries. GDP growth rates show the dynamics of development. The structure of GDP shows the sources of development. But all have disadvantages. So GDP can be large with good growth rate due to an increase in debt. Many Western countries have a high GDP figure, but a very large and dangerous debt.

@Aurinkohirvi GDP/PPP is calculated not by Russia, but by the World Bank and the IMF. Of course, it were't sanctions that put Russia's economy in 5-th place. Sanctions cause enormous damage to all sides: sanctioner and sanctionee. But if there were no sanctions, the Russian economy would develop with a GDP growth of 5% -7% per year. (Now 1,5%-2$) Washington would not accept that. This is why we have a war in Ukraine. In our case, it is curious that the sanctions hit Germany ( sanctioner ) harder than Russia (sanctionee.)

@PassivePortfolios Like it or not, but this is statistic of World Bank and International Monetary Fund, - Russia economy has the 1 place in Europe and the 5-th in the world. In the year 2023 it will show growth up to 2%

Ref. Scooters. You have very narrow pavements in UK.

@spandon Electricity in Russia is indeed cheap, as are many other services and products.

@someperson1829 No, raw GDP is not accurate.

@engliterra355 "Tatters" - That was Obama's wishful thinking in 2015.
