the "little brother ruining it for you" moment was priceless, made me laugh. yeah I lived that.

I thought I'd give debian a whirl about a year ago, seeing as how I'd been hearing about it for 20 years or so. Installed it on an old laptop and it works beautifully. I was able to get the gpu driver from SID but only that (and dependencies obviously, it was long since unsupported). I then switched back to stable, did an apt-update and use it on sable otherwise. They key to making it work was definitely using flatpak for the user-space gui applications - like browser and such. Best of both worlds. It's stable, I don't need to do any maintenance with it, and I'm confident it will keep doing so for a long time to come.

I haven't tried the arch install script, looks good though. I always choose grub and ext4 too, just because I always choose those :). Definitely agree with your advice on trying the manual way to learn how everything works. That was one of the best linux educational experiences ever, the first time I did it. That being said, unless you need a very specific and fine tuned install, a script saves so much time and so many brain cells.

So cool! can't wait to see the Altair kit. That will be fun.

great vid. the maniacal laugh is the best. Good for a future career in villainy. Anyway, I've been loving Debian but on my ancient laptop. Instead of going full SID repo on it, I installed (and ran and updated) debian stable (from 10 up to 12) and just took my gpu driver from SID, which sounds like it would be horribly tricky and frought with peril... but actually wasn't. That way, I get the best of both worlds. Nice, rock-solid stable for a laptop I don't need or want to update that often, and can still use its gpu driver (bad overheating with the open source one), and use flatpaks for all the applications I use regularly. It's a great combination.

@VeronicaExplains I was going to bring this up - that you likely had the shortcut swapped. I copy/paste bidirectionally between mac and linux all the time and it works. One neat feature of Barrier in the manual config is you can swap command and control from there, rather that messing with Karabiner (which I know is annoying).

I outright refuse to use streaming services. I think MP3/Digital music players still have a place, and I think they are becoming more popular again because its nice to have a dedicated device, which as you pointed out - doesn't interrupt you.

standing ovation You're the best, Veronica. Thanks for bringing the sanity. Bringing up the gibson vs. fender non-debate was a perfect analogy and gave me a chuckle.

Is that ardour behind your right shoulder? :D

that was fun

@wikingagresor To get the most up to date version. Debian comes with ESR firefox out of the box. Basically, if you want a current browser version, but don't wish to use testing or SID repos, flatpak it is.

Looks like a good spin!
