  1. Since the bones were in such disarray, perhaps they stripped the bones so that the souls couldn't re-inhabit their bodies and become zombies or skin walkers of some sort. Maybe these weren't revered people, but feared people and they had to be dealt with thoroughly and in a special manner :)
