  1. Great video - I like Garage Grown Gear and need to shop there more often. I wear leg warmers in fall-winter-spring made from men's big wool socks with the toes cut off. Then I can pull them on and off as needed easily, or simply push them down to my ankles. Works like a charm and is great for rambling through blackberry brambles here in Oregon. And since it's wool, if it gets a little wet, it's still warm.

  2. Great video! I broke my wrist 3 miles down a river bottom off-trail a year and a half ago. Friend splinted it with a dish towel, tree bark chunks and paracord. Had to hike out and wade across a knee-deep river twice, in February, with a broken wrist, to return to the truck for a 2 hour ride to the hospital. The ER was impressed with the splint job. Yep, be prepared!

  3. Excellent video. Could you make one for staying as safe as possible while day hiking and facing an unexpected night in the woods? How could you stay warm and alive in that scenario?

So true, and I had no idea until I was too far in to stop, LOL! $250 pack (one of three, each around that lol), $300 sleeping bag, $150 pad, $100 water filter, $100 belt knife, $350 Garmin, $600 FLIR etc. Not to mention boots, socks, hats, gloves, fleece & merino clothing. Day use fees, gasoline, vehicle upkeep, food, fishing gear (dont' get me started!) and weapon/license. Over the course of the last 4 years, I have a great system for me. I use, or at least take with me, my pack every weekend when we go out into the woods. I do about 4 overnights a year in my tent, and a few more in my Aquaquest tarp ($150). The Garmin and FLIR I use every weekend.

  5. I use a windshield shade cut into a long rectangle and folded over, duct tape the edges and insta food container. I freeze a small juice bottle/juice shot bottle with water and use that for ice, then drink it. Keeps my lunch cold. I also cut the shade to foot size and put them into my boots in winter, especially if I decide to wear trail runners instead of actual boots. Recently discovered Swedish cloths and those work well for condensation and drying anything.

  6. I love my Osprey packs, and I'd buy more if I could. But I have a perfectly good Outdoor Vitals UL pack that works great for everything I need a pack to do, and I love all the pockets. I use one of the Osprey's for a daypack sometimes.
