  1. The US wanted to protect their PetroDollar sales. If Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria all dropped the PetroDollar for oil sales that would have undermined US Dollar hegemony. The regime change in Libya was mainly about Libya's plans to promote an African currency the 'Dinar' backed by 143 tons of gold, to use for oil sales. Which would have cut the US out as a middle man and helped take control of the oil away from the US who need the oil for their war machine and to maintain their global military supremacy.
