  1. Because capitalism is the worst system of logistics and resource control ever created? Countries should be self-sufficient for food and energy at the very least. Allowing corporations to turn countries into specialised corporate suppliers is insanity.

  2.  @davidkottman3440  Apart from missing the point entirely you also seem oblivious to hydroponics, aquaponics and a multitude of other techniques which allow us to create most produce in any country. There are a few exceptions like Brazil nuts that have complex ecological requirements but 99% of produce can and is grown globally.
